Creating Heirloom-Quality Pieces to Last for Generations
My name is James Southworth, and my love for woodworking began when I was 14 years old. I was fortunate to have a great teacher who introduced me to the craft and guided me through building my first gun cabinet. That experience sparked a passion for building that has stayed with me ever since.
From a simple cutting board to a set of custom cabinets, every project starts with a conversation. I enjoy taking an idea, working through the details, and turning it into a quality piece that is built to be used, enjoyed, and hopefully passed down for years to come.
My beautiful wife, Teri, is an important part of Southworth Crafted as well. She has always been my sounding board and has a natural eye for the design side of the process. Together, we enjoy taking a customer's ideas and turning them into something that feels personal and unique to their home.
For more than 25 years, my primary business has been in the outdoor power equipment industry. While that business still commands much of my time, over the past several years I have been intentionally making more room for woodworking—something I have always genuinely enjoyed and have wanted to pursue on a larger scale.
Whenever possible, I work with reclaimed and locally sourced lumber. I have relationships with several local sawmills, and I also mill some of my own lumber from logs right here at the shop. There is something special about knowing where a piece of wood came from and giving it a new purpose.
What I enjoy most is creating heirloom-quality pieces—furniture and cabinetry with character, craftsmanship, and a story behind them. I don't want to simply build something that fills a space. I want to build something you'll be proud to have in your home for many years to come.
